Your news: Historical museum's 11th annual Irish Fest a success

The sun shone brightly for the over 3,000 people who attended the 11th annual Irish Fest at the Arlington Heights Historical Museum Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17.

The Arlington Heights Historical Museum grounds were packed with people of all ages, from toddlers in strollers to seniors. Armed with blankets and folding chairs, the crowds spent the evening at the historical grounds and enjoyed music, food, drink and Irish goods for sale.

The crowd enjoyed the traditional Irish music of The Dooley Brothers, Gavin Coyle and Paddy Homan & Friends as well as the high-stepping Ceili dancing of McNulty Dancers and Trinity Irish Dancers, along with the sound of the pipes and drums of the Emerald Society and the Glengael bagpipe bands.

On Friday night, the names of two Lucky Ladies were drawn. Each received several prizes including a Visa gift card and Paddy Homan CD. On Saturday, 12 men competed in the Best Legs in Kilt contest judged by four lovely ladies. Rob Klancnik of Arlington Heights won the bragging rights for Best Legs in Kilt contest. Second place was Todd Chianelli and third place was Jeff Manion, both of Arlington Heights.

Thanks to all volunteers who made the festival such a huge a success. If you didn't make it this year, be sure to put the Irish Fest on your schedule for next summer!

The Arlington Heights Historical Museum celebrates the link between the past and the present. The museum is a cooperative effort of the Village of Arlington Heights, Arlington Heights Park District, Arlington Heights Memorial Library and Arlington Heights Historical Society.

The past is never lost - as long as it is remembered. Towards that goal, the Arlington Heights Historical Museum collects and preserves significant materials related to our past and shares them through educational and recreational activities that promote community heritage and pride.
