Report: Hawks prospect Leddy will leave college; signs 3-year deal

According to a report by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, 19-year-old defenseman Nick Leddy has agreed to terms with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Leddy, who played one season for the Minnesota Golden Gophers after leading his Eden Prairie team to the Minnesota state title, impressed Blackhawks general manager at the recent prospects camp. The Blackhawks, who have not confirmed a deal has been struck, obtained the rights to Leddy in a Feb. 12 three-player trade with the Minnesota Wild involving Kim Johnsson for Cam Barker. Leddy was the No. 16 pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Star-Tribune reported the three-year deal would be worth $2.7 million, and Leddy would make $900,000 with bonuses if he makes the Blackhawks, and $67,500 if he plays for the Rockford IceHogs, their AHL affiliate.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Leddy was named Mr. Hockey in 2009 in Minnesota.
