Bears sign ex-Seahawks quarterback Mike Teel

The Bears signed free-agent quarterback Mike Teel to a two-year contract Monday afternoon, giving them a third quarterback in training camp with little or no professional experience.

Teel was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round (178th overall) of the 2009 draft out of Rutgers, and he spent the entire season on the active roster but did not appear in a regular-season game. Teel played in all four of the Seahawks' preseason games and completed 20 of 41 passes for 238 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception for an 81.1 passer rating.

Teel was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots in May of 2010 but released three weeks later.

No. 2 quarterback Caleb Hanie, who was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State in 2008, has played briefly in three NFL games and thrown a total of 7 passes, completing 3 for 11 yards with 1 interception. Rookie Dan LeFevour, the Bears' sixth-round pick this year out of Central Michigan, is considered a project and the former Benet Academy star could be destined for the practice squad this year.
