A full day of tree-climbing on tap at Morton Arboretum
Saturday's heavy storms prompted officials at the Morton Arboretum to postpone the first part of the International Tree Climbing Championship event.
That means all events are scheduled to take place Sunday. The action begins bright and early at 7 a.m. with the preliminary competition. The Master's Challenge Championship will follow.
"We're going to get it all done in one shot," Arboretum spokeswoman Gina Tedesco said. "The event could last into the evening."
More than 50 arborists from all over the world are scheduled to show off their tree-scaling skills during the competition, which will be held on the west side of the outdoor museum in Lisle.
In conjunction with the competition, the Arboretum is hosting an Arbor Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Amateur tree-climbers will be able to test their skills with a recreational climb, and families will have fun with the limb walk or watching a professional chain saw carver in action.
The events are free with the regular Arboretum admission. For information, go to mortonarb.org. The Morton Arboretum is located at 4100 Route 53, Lisle.
