Woman struck, killed by train in Mount Prospect
Trains were delayed for over an hour Friday evening after a woman was struck and killed by a westbound train, police and Metra officials have confirmed.
According to Mount Prospect police, shortly before 7 p.m., a white female was struck crossing the tracks near the intersection of Northwest Highway and William Street. That portion of the tracks contains no vehicle or pedestrian crossings.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the accident was a suicide, police said.
Trains resumed normal operation around 8:15 p.m., police said.
Police declined to provide more information until the woman's identity has been determined and her family notified.
