Wildwood man killed in motorcycle crash, 4-year-old injured

A 24-year-old Wildwood man is dead after the motorcycle he was driving ran into a Nissan Sentra, Lake County Sheriff officials said Wednesday.

A 4-year-old Waukegan girl who was a passenger in the car was also injured in the crash on Route 120 near Wildwood, and is listed in critical condition, Sgt. Christopher Thompson said.

Rezger Mohammad, 24, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle onto the pavement during the accident Sunday at 7:52 p.m., Thompson said. Mohammad was pronounced dead at the scene by Lake County Coroner officials.

Mohammad's Suzuki motorcycle struck the 2002 Sentra driven by Araceli Atempa, 25, of Waukegan, who was turning from the westbound lanes of Route 120 onto southbound Almond Road. The eastbound motorcycle struck the Sentra's right, rear passenger door.

Atempa told police did not see the motorcycle when his car was hit, Thompson said.

The 4-year-old girl riding in the Sentra suffered a head injury and multiple broken bones in the crash, Thompson said. She was initially taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, but was later transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by a Flight for Life helicopter.

She was not in a child safety seat at the time of the accident, Thompson said. A second child was strapped into an infant seat, and the driver of the car was wearing a seat belt, he added. They were also transported to Condell but later released.

Police said they did yet not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. No citations have been issued as of yet, Thompson added.
