Lake Zurich garage fire totals car, motorcycle
A garage fire in unincorporated Lake Zurich destroyed a car and motorcycle parked inside, firefighters said Sunday.
Wauconda Battalion Chief Paul Gross said his department got a call at 1:20 p.m. about a structure fire on the 2400 block of Mary Dale Ave.
Arriving on the scene, Gross said they found a "heavily involved" fire inside a garage attached to the split-level home.
The home's residents were away on vacation.
Gross said firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about a half-hour and kept the fire from entering the home. One firefighter hurt his knee in the process and was sent to a hospital for observation.
The garage, however, is totaled, along with a car and a motorcycle parked inside.
Gross estimated the damage to be $90,000.
Gross said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Along with Wauconda, Lake Zurich, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Nunda and Lake Forest fire departments assisted on the scene.
