Accept differences in all people

In his recent letter, James Finnegan claims the "homosexual" pride parade sends the wrong message. Did he ever stop and think that his letter sends the wrong message? According to him, gays and lesbians are all disease-ridden deadbeats with a lack of morals. Wow! Talk about a stereotype.

I hate to break it to Mr. Finnegan, but gays and lesbians are real people with jobs and healthy lifestyles. And they raise families, too. One day their children may also be the paying customers of Chicago sports games.

James, how would you feel if someone were standing outside your door telling you what you can and cannot do? Stop acting so judgmental and learn to love and accept the differences of others. I hope you would treat a gay family member with the love and respect he or she deserves.

Brent Sopel participated in this year's parade to not only honor his friend's gay son, but also to eliminate the awful discrimination that exists in the sports world. Hardly the misguided message you claim it was.
