Girl suffocated by burst balloon
Police in Romeoville say a 6-year-old local girl died of apparent suffocation when a Mylar-type balloon she was playing with in her bedroom burst and became wrapped around her face.
Police say young Jayda Jones was found unconscious early Tuesday afternoon in the family's home.
Her father carried Jayda outside, where several neighbors attempted to revive her before paramedics arrived on the scene.
She was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital in Bolingbrook, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The girl's death remains under investigation.
