Suspect charged in Streamwood standoff after psychiatric hospital stay
The man who police hold responsible for the second of Streamwood's two standoffs last week appeared in bond court on Tuesday after doctors released him from a psychiatric hospital.
Bruce L. Hansford, 48, of the 100 block of Beverly Court in Streamwood, was charged with domestic battery and reckless conduct. He appeared Tuesday in Rolling Meadows court and was given a $50,000 bond. The misdemeanor charges mean he faces up to a year in a jail.
Streamwood Deputy Police Chief James Gremo wrote via e-mail that Hansford had spent the last few days in a psychiatric hospital.
Hansford fired his gun during a standoff at his house which lasted about eight hours, police said. The standoff started around 5:30 p.m. on July 6. A woman called police after she escaped a man who had attacked her, police said. The woman also said the man was suicidal and armed, police added.
Police officers from the specially-trained and outfitted Northern Illinois Alarm System set up a perimeter around the house. When they attempted to arrest Hansford, he fired his gun, police said. The standoff ended around 1:30 a.m. on July 7 and Hansford was then taken to the hospital for observation, police said. No one was hurt. Police said they found several guns in the house.
The incident was the second domestic-related standoff in Streamwood in one week. Lawrence Cattone, 44, of Marengo, remains in jail with a $350,000 bond after police charged him with five felonies after a four-hour incident on the 700 block of Stowell Place. The two cases are unrelated.
Hansford next court date is scheduled for July 27.
