Schaumburg man charged with sexual exploitation of minor

A Schaumburg man is being taken to Buffalo, N.Y., after his arrest by FBI agents and Schaumburg police Sunday morning on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor.

David Kyle Murch, 19, of 201 Travis Court, Schaumburg, was arrested while driving his car in Elk Grove Village, FBI spokesman Ross Rice said.

According to reports, a 15-year-old girl from Georgia was reported missing while she was supposed to be visiting her grandparents in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Local police and Buffalo, N.Y., FBI agents began an investigation that indicated the girl had been engaged in an online relationship with Murch, whom they determined had taken her from New York to Illinois.

Rice said the girl was located in Murch's Schaumburg apartment while he was away. She was unharmed but it's believed there had been sexual contact between them, Rice them.

The case fell into the FBI's jurisdiction because interstate travel was involved.

The girl was traced by bank records that showed unauthorized use of her grandfather's debit card at various places in western New York and Ohio Saturday morning, while cell phone records showed her cell phone being used in Schaumburg Sunday morning.

Rice said the approximately 24 hours Murch and the victim spent together was apparently the first time they'd been in each other's presence, but it's believed they had maintained their online relationship for some time.

Murch was formally charged by Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole in Chicago Monday, and will remain at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in the city until he's moved to Buffalo.

If convicted of the felony charge, Murch faces a possible sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
