Plainfield motorcyclist clocked at 105 mph

A 24-year-old Plainfield man was charged with speeding and driving without proof of insurance early Sunday in Naperville after his motorcycle was clocked doing 105 mph in a 45 mph zone, authorities said Monday.

Police said Jonathan O'Neill was one of three motorcyclists speeding south on Route 59 approaching Montgomery Road.

Police say O'Neill was the only one to pull his 2007 blue Suzuki Hyabusa to the shoulder when police activated their lights and pursued the three just south of Montgomery Road. The two other motorcyclists escaped.

Naperville police are prohibited from pursuing speeding vehicles for misdemeanor offenses.

"There would have to be some pretty extenuating circumstances for the officer to pursue the two that took off," Sgt. Gregg Bell said.

O'Neill was charged with a Class A misdemeanor and released on bond.
