W. Chicago man dies in car wreck near Wheaton
An elderly West Chicago man died early Monday from injuries he suffered the night before in a crash near Wheaton.
Thomas Tinnes, 81, was pronounced dead at 1:49 a.m. at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. The accident remains under investigation. No citations were issued, according to DuPage County sheriff's officials.
A 2004 Dodge Dakota was heading east on Butterfield Road approaching Arrowhead Drive about 8:40 p.m. Sunday when Tinnes' 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis tried to turn out of the golf course to travel west, authorities said.
The truck struck the driver's side front end of Tinnes' Mercury. The other driver, Bryan Hancock, 23, of Warrenville, was treated for minor injuries and released.
Butterfield Road was closed for roughly three hours Sunday night between Herrick and Orchard roads while investigators reconstructed the crash.
