Sunday evening storm left behind damage

A Sunday evening storm that wound its way through the Fox Valley left some damage in its wake.

In Carpentersville, lightning struck the antenna of a two-story house at 4705 Wind Ridge Court and set the back of the house on fire at about 7 p.m., according to the fire department.

The fire was under control within 15 minutes of firefighters arriving. There were no reports of injuries, and the estimate of total losses was $70,000, incident reports said.

The storm also turned its ire on Lake in the Hills.

Just before 7 p.m. Sunday, a bolt of lightning struck the chimney of a house on the 3800 block of Peartree Lane.

It knocked the chimney cap to the ground, but did not result in any injuries, said Capt. John Winkelman of the Huntley Fire Protection District.

The strike also damaged the home's circuit breakers, Winkleman said. No further damage to the house could be found.
