Let's show more respect for authority

The recent flap over the general's remarks brings to my mind a bigger, more pervasive issue: the lack of respect for authority.

This attitude that anyone can say anything to anyone, including those in positions of authority such as parents, school teachers is so ingrained in our culture now that people feel that merely saying "oops, sorry" excuses this lack of respect for authority.
