Torchetti takes job with Atlanta

A busy weekend for the Blackhawks kicked off Thursday with assistant coach John Torchetti leaving to become an associate coach with the Atlanta Thrashers.

Torchetti was with the Hawks since 2007 and was responsible for running the power play. He joins head coach Craig Ramsay's staff with the Thrashers.

It's the fourth time Atlanta general manager Rick Dudley has hired Torchetti. Dudley was the Hawks' assistant GM until last summer.

"The entire organization would like to wish John well with the Thrashers and all of his future endeavors," Hawks GM Stan Bowman said in a statement. "We appreciate all of his work during his three years on staff, including being a part of our Stanley Cup championship team."

Bowman put no timetable on finding a replacement for Torchetti on coach Joel Quenneville's staff.

The Hawks' annual prospect camp begins today at Johnny's Ice House West and runs through Monday.

The Hawks have invited 72 players to the camp including their last three No. 1 draft picks: Right wing Kevin Hayes (2010), defenseman Dylan Olsen (2009) and left wing Kyle Beach (2008).

Also attending will be the Hawks' three second-round draft picks from 2010 in Ludvig Rensfeldt, Justin Holl and Stephen Johns.
