Stolen Barrington school computers recovered, 2 charged

Two people have been arrested and Barrington police have recovered most of the computer and video equipment stolen from Barrington Middle School Prairie campus on two occasions in June.

More than $20,000 worth of computer and video equipment was taken from the Prairie Campus. The first theft, of 22 computers, was reported June 21.

Police said it was the second break-in, at about 2:40 a.m. June 30, that cracked the case.

Nicholas Paul Winters, 19, of the 90 block of Yorkshire Drive in Hanover Park was charged with one count each of burglary and possession of cannabis.

Kevin J. Deacon, 21, of the 0-100 block of Taynton Lane in South Barrington was charged with two counts of burglary and one count of possession of cannabis. Both were arrested on June 30.

Investigators said after the school burglar alarm went off at 2:40 a.m. June 30, police tracked Winters to a wooded area where he was arrested with the assistance of Barrington Hills officers.

During the investigation, detectives recovered 15 of the 22 computers reported stolen from the school on June 21, as well as video projectors, monitors, video cameras and other related equipment found at homes in Palatine and DeKalb.

Police said the investigation is continuing, with the hope of finding the rest of the stolen equipment.

Both suspects had bonds set at $15,000 at their initial court hearing July 1. Their next scheduled appearance is July 23.
