Eighth DUI lands McHenry County man seven years in prison
A 48-year-old McHenry County man was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison for his eighth drunken driving offense, one that was followed by his arrest for driving with his licensed revoked.
Manuel Garcia, of the 1900 block of Julie Street in Woodstock, was sentenced under a plea deal struck in May in which he admitted to felony charges of driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license.
In return for the guilty plea, McHenry County prosecutors agreed to dismiss several other charges, including another DUI and possession of cannabis.
Prosecutors said Garcia in all has eight DUI offenses on his record, most of them local, but some in Texas. The one for which he was sentenced Friday occurred in December 2006 in Woodstock.
With likely day-for-day credit for good behavior in prison, Garcia should be eligible for parole in about three years.
