Wheaton spending priorities misplaced

As the governing body of Wheaton, the city council should be concerned about the preservation and promotion of Wheaton's history. Concerned enough to budget money so that this history may continue to be preserved.

We are a great city and the county seat. The surrounding communities all support their city's history financially, but not Wheaton. We trap coyotes and have endless feaseability studies on the Wheaton Grand. We have seven to eight band concerts to the tune of over $100,000 by importing people into the community.

With a tremendous music department at Wheaton College, I would think we could do it cheaper or even have a volunteer band. With money tight right now the city could help promote the Center and tourism with printing and publicity, i.e. newsletter, but the council doesn't do that either. The city hasn't even passed a bill for materials requested for the sesquicentenial and the time capsule, saying they didn't budget for that, however we were expected to deliver.

Our services aren't free. Residents keep this in mind when voting for the next mayor and council They should represent your views. After all, they are serving the whole community.
