Lions to host Mt. Prospects Fourth festival

The Mount Prospect Lions Club opens the 72nd annual Fourth of July Festival Wednesday, June 30, at Melas Park, Busse and Central roads.

The festival runs June 30 to Sunday, July 4. Fireworks will be held Wednesday and July 4, both starting at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.

There's something for everyone, including carnival rides, games and live entertainment every night. The food and pop tent features several vendors from the Mount Prospect area who will be offering their specialties. The Lions once again will be selling fresh sweet corn and there also will be the Miller Beer Garden.

On Saturday, July 3, there will be the Lions Paw Charity Car Show from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Melas Park.

On Sunday, July 4, the Lions will hold its annual pancake breakfast and bake sale from 7-11 a.m. At 1 p.m. the 4th of July parade kicks off starting at Lions Park and ending at Melas Park. Featured in the parade is a group from the North West Territory Alliance, which re-creates the culture and lifestyle of the war for American independence (1775-1783).

A raffle drawing will be at 9 p.m. July 4. The big prize will be a four-day/three-night stay in Las Vegas, airfare included. Additional prizes will include a Bosch donated tool package, a 37-inch flat screen TV, a GPS unit and two adult bicycles (all donated by Walmart) a Sybaris overnight getaway, and a local dining package. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Winners need not be present.
