Ela library milestone:The Ela Area Public Library is nearing 1 million items checked out in a year, and will probably reach that milestone today, officials said. To celebrate the feat, the library, at 275 Mohawk Trail in Lake Zurich, is hosting a party beginning at 10 a.m. The first 500 visitors will receive free custard sundaes from Culver's. Ela Library began its Marching to a Million campaign in January and offered incentives for people to borrow more items during the past six months. This will be the first time the library has reached a circulation of 1 million. A similar campaign last year fell short by about 43,000 items.Round Lake woman honored:A Round Lake businesswoman recently received the 2010 Child Care Activist Award presented by the Women's Business Development Center. Martina Rocha, who owns Best Friends Day Care in Round Lake, was presented with the award at the center's 12th Annual Child Care Business Expo in Chicago. Officials say Rocha was recognized for founding the Together for Childhood Network in Lake County, which assists in child care training for day care providers and parents. The center gives the award annually to businessmen and women who connect business and community to child care issues and who create programs illuminating issues surrounding child care needs. Officials called Rocha a true "connector."Baseball day at Barefoot Bay:A special "Baseball Day" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 2, will feature Lake County Fielders players at the Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center, 1461 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein. A rain date is scheduled for Aug. 3. Players will be available for a meet and greet and autograph session with a paid daily admission or season pass to the Mundelein Park Recreation District water park.
