NHL releases 2010-11 schedule for Blackhawks

The puck will drop on Oct. 7 to start the 2010-11 NHL season, and the Blackhawks will open defense of their Stanley Cup Championship on the road that night against the Colorado Avalanche, where Hawks head coach Joel Quenneville won his first Stanley Cup as an assistant coach.

The Detroit Red Wings will host the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena on Oct. 8, then travel to Chicago on Oct. 9 to watch the Blackhawks raise their Stanley Cup banner to the United Center rafters in the home opener.

While Detroit will be the only Original Six club to visit the United Center next season, the Blackhawks will host the Eastern Conference champion Philadelphia Flyers in January and the 2009 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penquins in February.

Twenty-two of the club's 41 contests in Chicago take place on weekends, which includes 12 Sundays and six Fridays. The Hawks will host the Flyers at the United Center on Sunday, Jan. 23 in a rematch of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final, and the Penguins on Sunday, Feb. 20.

Five of Chicago's first eight games (Oct. 7 to 20) and eight of their first 12 (Oct. 7 to Oct. 29) will be played on home ice. The Blackhawks' will skate in a season-high five-game home stand from Dec. 15 to 26.

The two longest road trips of the season for the Blackhawks include a six-game swing from Nov. 17 to 27 and a six-contest run from Feb. 1 to 12. Eleven of the club's final 17 tilts of the 2010-11 regular-season come away from the United Center.

The Blackhawks will match up against each of their four Central Division rivals six times (Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis) and their remaining 10 Western Conference foes four times apiece. Chicago will play each team in the Eastern Conference at least one time in 2010-11.

For the third consecutive season, all 82 Chicago Blackhawks games will be televised in HD on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and WGN-TV. The complete television broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.

Information about full season packages and group tickets for regular-season games are available by calling (312) 455-7000. Tickets for single games will be available at a date to be determined.
