McHenry fundraiser features 'Samurai' Mike
A fundraiser Saturday in McHenry, featuring former Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary and NFL safety O.J. Atogwe, will help out local families in need.
Wayne Jett, a McHenry entrepreneur and organizer of the event, said he hopes to rally support for a new nonprofit group, Together Everyone Assists McHenry County Community Organization (TEAM).
"We want to help families with mortgage, insurance and car payments, as well as food pantry," Jett said. "The goal is to raise $75,000."
During the event, "Through the eyes of a winner: An afternoon with Samurai Mike," Singletary will speak to the audience from 1 to 2 p.m. at McHenry West High School. The current San Francisco 49ers head coach and Hall of Famer is known for inspirational speeches.
"He's a heck of a speaker. He can touch people right." Jett said.
Oshiomogho "O.J." Atogwe, an unrestricted free agent after five years with St. Louis Rams, will sign autographs for VIP ticket holders and some general admission ticket holders at the event.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the United Way, which works with McHenry Township to deliver support to families in need, according to Township Supervisor Donna Schaefer.
General admission tickets are $20 each at uwmchenry.org or Jett's Heating and Air, (815)-459-4700. $100 VIP tickets, which promise a meet-and-greet opportunity with Singletary, are only available by phone. For more information, visit jettsheatingandair.com.
