Stanley Cup champs to play exhibition in Winnipeg
WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will play an exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Winnepeg in the fall.
True North Sports & Entertainment Limited said Wednesday the Blackhawks will play the Lightning on Sept. 22 at the MTS Center.
The matchup will be the seventh NHL preseason contest hosted by Winnipeg since 1997. The game will be a homecoming for Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, a Winnipeg native.
Last year, the Lightning defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime in Winnipeg before 11,644 fans.
