Two local students named to societyThe National Society of High School Scholars recently announced that Hampshire High School student Devyn Leilahni Le of Gilberts and South Elgin High School student Jessica M. Orsini of Bartlett have been selected for membership. The Society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. Formed in 2002, The National Society of High School Scholars recognizes academic excellence at the high school level, and it provides scholarship opportunities for deserving young people. All proceeds will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital.AMVETS to host picnic for veteransAMVETS of Cary Grove Post 245 will host its 23rd annual picnic for hospitalized veterans at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, in memory of Chris Chigas. Veterans from four different VA hospitals will be attending. Approximately 500 veterans from Illinois and Wisconsin will be bussed to Lions Park, 102 Beachway in Fox River Grove along the Fox River near the Route 14 bridge.
