Wheaton's Officer of the Year:A 20-year veteran of the Wheaton Police Department has been named its 2009 Officer of the Year. Officer Delyne Magnier was chosen to receive the award for her "volunteerism, availability, support to others, extra effort, and her committed, caring and professional competence," officials said. Mangier, who joined the department in October 1989, is the school liaison officer at Wheaton North High School. Previously, she has been assigned to the patrol and detectives divisions.Wheaton police name Civilian of the YearRebecca Blanchard, a parking enforcement officer, has been named Wheaton Police Department's Civilian of the Year. Officials said a committee of past award recipients selected Blanchard to win the award because of her "hard work, positive attitude, respectfulness, pleasant demeanor, fairness and professionalism." Blanchard has worked for the police department since October 2006. Earlier in the year, Blanchard received the O.E. Kimball Civil Servant Award from the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce.County grant portal wins awardA Web-based guide designed to help DuPage County staff and elected officials pursue grant money has been designated "Best of Category" in the County Administration and Management category by the National Association of Counties. The portal, developed by DuPage Grants Coordinator Shannon Shane, was awarded for "promoting quality, efficient and responsive management and administration," according to NACo. Launched last August, portal has a variety of features, including countywide grants news, links to upcoming grant opportunities and grant writing tutorials.Fish-O-RamaWheaton Park District's Lincoln Marsh presents its 20th annual Fish-O-Rama from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 19 at Elliot Lake, which is located on Gary Avenue south of Cosley Zoo. The event is free. Children 15 years old and under, with an adult, are invited to participate in the open fishing contest. Participants who are 16 to 64 years old must have a valid Illinois fishing license in order to fish. While there is no fee, registration is required.
