Don't blame Obama for Gulf oil spill

Regarding your editorial on May 26, "Woeful Delays on a National Tragedy" in which you blame Obama for the oil mess in the gulf. You are dead wrong.

You say Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal complains about the slow federal response? You must be kidding. Bobby Jindal is one who opposed the stimulus bill, then when it came time to accept the money, not only didn't refuse it but used it to brag to his constituents about all he was doing for the state.

This economic and environmental mess is a result of a Republican philosophy handed to him by Bush and Republican leaders. A philosophy of deregulation, keep government out of our lives, the free market will take care of itself, the private sector can do everything better than government, and Sarah Palin and the "drill baby drill" crowd.

Now all of a sudden it's Obamas fault? First of all Obama was lied to by BP regarding the scope and enormity of the problem from the beginning. He also has been trying to cooperate with Republicans since he took office and they, wanting to destroy him, have voted against everything he has tried to do - he lends them a hand and gets a kick in the teeth every time.

Now they want him to fix this mess. Your editorial should be about why these people are not prosecuted for what they caused. If I spill a barrel of oil into one of our lakes I would be arrested.

These people cause a catastrophe and go free just as the Bush crowd started a war and walk free. They should all be in jail.
