Schaumburg band readies for Florida concert trip
The 177-member Schaumburg High School Saxon Marching Band will showcase itself Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at Disney World and EPCOT Center in Orlando, Fla.
On Sunday, the marching band will perform in the "Celebrate a Dream Come True" parade, stepping off at 2:30 p.m. (EST) in the Magic Kingdom.
At 10:30 a.m. Monday, the band will perform in the "Future World March" parade through EPCOT Center. The Schaumburg High School Jazz Ensemble will close out the Orlando tour with a performance in Downtown Disney at the Waterside Stage, at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.
To prepare for the trip, the band practiced its program outdoors Wednesday, entertaining the neighborhood west of the high school by marching and playing on its streets.
"We are looking forward to having a fun end-of-year tour," said Kevin Miller, Schaumburg High School director of bands.
"The Disney Parks are excellent performance venue," he added. "Our students have been working hard toward this all year, and they also will have an opportunity to enjoy the Disney World parks when they are not performing."
The band will leave Friday from Schaumburg High School and travel to Florida on coach bus.
