Man charged after 7-hour Streamwood standoff

A Streamwood man is facing a felony charge after, police said, he threatened his estranged wife with a firearm Thursday night, leading to 7-hour standoff with officers that ended early Friday morning.

The Cook County State's Attorney's office approved a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm against Pedro Garay, 31, of the 0-20 block of East Pine Street, in connection with the standoff that ended peacefully about 4:15 a.m.

No one was hurt in the incident, but officers displaced several residents after they were called to the block about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, police said. Officers also closed part of Bartlett Road until Garay surrendered.

Garay is accused of threatening his estranged wife with a gun while sitting in a car, police said. The woman, along with her 6-year-old son, escaped without injury.

Garay, police said, then locked himself in a nearby home, where he remained until early Friday morning, After he surrendered, police said, officers found a gun inside the home.

The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System assisted during the standoff and arrest.
