Cary woman accused of bilking Algonquin workplace of $190,000
A Cary woman has been accused of stealing more than $190,000 from her Algonquin employer, police said Wednesday.
Police say that between July 2009 and January 2010, Clarissa Schauer, 38, of the 0-100 block of West Margaret Terrace, cashed company checks by signing someone else's name on them.
Schauer obtained the checks from Worldtrans International, where she worked in either the accounting or book keeping department, Deputy Police Chief Ed Urban said.
Act on a tip from the company, Algonquin police began investigating Jan. 22, Urban said.
Schauer was arrested Tuesday on a related McHenry County warrant and charged with theft over $100,000, three counts of forgery and three counts of theft over $300.
She was released Wednesday after posting 10 percent of an $80,000 bond and is due in court June 30, Urban said.
If found guilty of the most serious charge, Schauer could spend between four and 15 years in prison.
