Rams to retire Bruce's number

ST. LOUIS -- The No. 80 that Isaac Bruce wore during 14 seasons with the Rams will be retired.

The team made the announcement on Wednesday in advance of a news conference in which the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver will announce his retirement.

Bruce spent 14 of his 16 seasons with the Rams. He played for the 49ers in 2008 and 2009. St. Louis reacquired Bruce on Monday so he could retire as a Ram.

The Rams will officially retire Bruce's number during an Oct. 31 home game against Carolina. For that game, the team will wear throwback uniforms of white, blue and yellow that were worn from 1973 to 1999 -- the year Bruce and the "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams were 13-3 and went on to win Super Bowl 34.

Bruce is in the top 10 all-time in the NFL in receiving yards, catches and touchdowns.
