Hawks must dictate pace of the game
Q. OK, hypothetical: Imagine you are one of the leaders on this team. What are you going to tell the boys in the dressing room before the game?A. I would tell them that we have an opportunity to do something very special here, something that only comes around maybe once in a lifetime. If there is anything we can do inside this room to make that happen, we have to make sure that we're prepared to do whatever it takes. It's not going to be an easy game because Philadelphia is going to give it everything they have. But if we play to our capabilities and do what we need to do to be a successful hockey team as we've shown in the past, that's what we need to do here tonight.Q. What impressed you most about the Blackhawks performance on Sunday?A. I liked the energy and the way they dictated the pace of that hockey game. I believe that's always been the strength of what makes the Blackhawks such a hard team to play against - wave after wave of the team speed. Especially for that first 20 minutes, you saw what the Blackhawks' potential is when they come and play to their capabilities.Q. But as well as the Hawks played, Philly never let them pull away, did they?A. That's a very resilient team. They've got a lot of pride in that locker room and they've gone through a lot of adversity this year - probably more than any team in the NHL. I don't think anything fazes them inside that locker room. They still feel all they have to do is take care of business on their home ice and they'll force a Game 7.The Blackhawks have to have that mentality that they're going to take the will away from the Flyers tonight and make sure there is no let-up. They saw what happens if they make mistakes. Philadelphia is too good of a team and they'll be able to capitalize. You need a good start, and then you have to continue for a full 60 minutes if you're going to eliminate Philadelphia.Q. Any other keys for the Blackhawks tonight?A. If you look at what happened in the first period of Game 5 ... you can't win the game by playing a strong 20 minutes coming out, but you can lose the game. Really, that was where the Flyers - before they were able to get their feet underneath them - struggled in that game. The key to tonight's game is just laying extremely well and extremely competitive in the first 20 minutes, possibly getting the first goal, and trying to take the emotion out of the building.
