Streamwood man, three others charged in DVD, ID ring

A 26-year-old Streamwood man was among four people arrested by Cook County Sheriff's police in connection with a counterfeit DVD and ID card ring operating out of a Chicago apartment.

Ivan Flores-Abad, of the 300 block of South Park Blvd., was charged with one count of unlawful use of unidentified sound of audio recordings. Co-defendant Miguel Hernandez-Landa, 33, of the 2400 block of South Springfield, Chicago, faces four counts of unlawful use of unidentified sound of audio recordings.

Bail for the two men was set at $20,000 each.

A tipster alerted sheriff's investigators to the ring, which sold unauthorized DVDs from an apartment that was set up like a store, according to the sheriff's department. As the investigation unfolded, authorities said, deputies learned Hernandez-Landa had an associate who could provide false identifications cards. Investigators began buying the fake IDs, a spokeswoman said, eventually charging 27-year-old Maria Luna- Hernandez, of the 2300 block of South Avers Ave., in Chicago, with three counts of manufacturing, delivering and possessing counterfeit ID cards. Berwyn resident Silvia Jaracz, 47, of the 2700 block of South Ridgeland, was charged as an accomplice. she and Luna-Hernandez remain in Cook County Jail on an immigration detainer, a spokeswoman said.
