Why so many taxing bodies?
As I write my check for this first semiannual tax payment, I see that there are 26 taxing bodies, of which 12 are for pension funds. Of these, 10 have more than doubled from last year.
Did we really see an increase in services or are they just protecting themselves? As I understand, Illinois has more government bodies (some 7,000) then any other state. We need to eliminate some of these and we should start with townships.
I cannot recall when I have received any services from the township. Should we start a petition to dissolve townships? As far as I can see, they do nothing but provide some senior citizen services that can be handled by the city or county.
