Schaumburg handyman charged with forgery

A Schaumburg handyman appeared in bond court Saturday after being charged with felony forgery for allegedly bilking a senior citizen of about $2,300.

Jeffrey Jankowski, 39, of the 1600 block of Syracuse Lane in Schaumburg, was hired in April to do work around the Arlington Heights home of a senior citizen. The senior then paid Jankowski $96 for the services, but that check had a second blank check accidentally stuck behind it, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Bill Cotter.

Jankowski allegedly asked an employee of his to cash that second blank check for about $2,300. The senior said the $2,300 was unauthorized and not for any services, Cotter said.

Judge Samuel Betar set a $5,000 bond for Jankowski. A June 30 hearing is scheduled at the courthouse in Rolling Meadows.

The employee who allegedly cashed the check was not charged, Cotter said.
