Message for driver who killed dog
On Tuesday afternoon, May 25, a driver traveling east on East Elm Street in Wheaton struck and killed my nephew's dog. The dog, Meeko, was accidentally let out by a friend who was arriving at the house for a band practice.
The driver did not stay to help this distraught young man, because he was in a hurry to get his child to soccer practice. Thankfully, neighbors who had witnessed the accident assisted in getting the dog in a car and to a veterinarian. Unfortunately, it was too late to save Meeko.
I can understand that a parent might not want his younger child to witness the death of an animal, especially a pet. But when you have caused this death, even though it is an unfortunate accident, what example do you set by putting soccer practice above helping those injured? I do hope that at some time in the next few days, the driver will at least stop to apologize for his callous behavior, so that my nephew, his wife, their young daughter and their friend will feel some compassion for their loss.
Meeko lived at 427 E. Elm Street with his family - Tom, Megan and Lyleah Bianchi. They will miss him.
