Fox River Grove wasting money
On Tuesday, May 11, I attended a special village board meeting in Fox River Grove to discuss the new public works facility. Their current plan is expected to cost $3.5 million for Phase I, for a 19,000-square-foot building in a residential neighborhood with plans to build Phase II and III to add offices and repair bays later at additional cost.
Since residents were not allowed to speak I passed out some information to the trustees on an existing industrial building of 33,000 square feet for $1.5 million in the neighboring Cary's industrial park with offices and space for repair bays.
Trustee Gerald Menzel commented that they are spending taxpayers money and he can't in good conscience see spending $3.5 million for something that is available now for $1.5 million. He requested a week to look into this new information. The village attorney stated that the village can own property in neighboring Cary and not have to pay property taxes.
A vote to look into the existing Cary industrial building was taken. Trustees Blohm, Ireland and Menzel voted for this motion. Trustees Figurski, Knar and Tuman voted against this motion. President Robert Nunamaker broke the tie, voting against the motion. With the vote from the village president the village could've saved $2 million or more. Why wouldn't they at least look into this building? Do they have their own agenda? Why would the village spend $3.5 million for a public works garage just to park vehicles? This wasteful spending of our money by the village must stop.
Please e-mail your village trustees telling them you are not pleased on how they are wasting taxpayers money. You can read more about their proposed public works on the village website: FoxRiverGrove.org.
