Keith: We have to stay out of the penalty box to win
PHILADELPHIA - During their seven-game winning streak that ended Wednesday, the Blackhawks won four games by a goal.
So you'd think they must have been doing a lot of things right.
Right?
"You know, sometimes you get away with things and you win,'' Hawks defenseman Duncan Keith said. "It's funny because we've been doing a lot of things that aren't right and getting away with it.''
Foremost on Keith's mind were the 3 penalties the Hawks took in the first 2 periods of Wednesday's 4-3 loss.
All were selfish and the 2 penalties by Dustin Byfuglien - Marian Hossa took the other - were dumb ones.
The Flyers scored twice on the power play, something that aggravated Keith and will probably get some attention from coach Joel Quenneville.
"We have to learn to stay out of the penalty box,'' Keith said. "We talk about it every day.''
The Flyers are 4-for-10 in this series on the power play, and nearly half their goals have come with the man advantage.
"Sooner or later we'll get it through our heads,'' Keith said. "We better get it through our heads.''
Aside from the penalties, Keith said the Hawks played a solid game.
"It's definitely the best game we played in this series,'' Keith said. "It's probably the best game we've played for awhile.
"It's funny because I didn't think we played that great the first two games in Chicago and we won those two, but then we play real well tonight and we lose this one.
"That's hockey for you.''
Keith logged more than 30 minutes again Wednesday night, though that still wasn't good enough for game-high honors.
It wasn't even second best. Chris Pronger continued to play ridiculous minutes, on the ice for 32:07, while Braydon Coburn put in 31:26.
"No one's tired right now. Not this time of year,'' Keith said. "There's no reason to save anything because there's only a few games left no matter what happens in this one.''
And while the Flyers won this one, the Hawks don't sound worried.
"We've been in this position before and we have to use that as a reference point,'' Keith said. "We have to learn from it and play better next game. I feel pretty good that we're going to do that.''
