Driver injured in rollover accident in Mount Prospect

The driver of a minivan was hospitalized for only minor injuries when his vehicle rolled over during an early morning accident in Mount Prospect.

Two minivans crashed in the intersection of Northwest Highway and Route 83 at about 6:20 a.m. today.

Police say the accident occurred because one of the drivers drove through a red light.

John W. Bath of the 5200 block of Kimball in Chicago was issued a citation for disregarding a red light, said officer Mark Bechtold. The 31-year-old Chicago driver was not injured.

The 39-year-old driver of the other vehicle was transported to Northwest Community Hospital where he suffered only minor injuries, Bechtold said.

The roads in the area, where the speed limit is 30 mph, were closed until 7:15 a.m. causing traffic backups during the morning rush hour.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, Bechtold said.
