Seven-hour Mount Prospect standoff ends peacefully

An 81-year-old man emerged from his Mount Prospect home uninjured after barricading himself inside for nearly seven hours starting Tuesday evening.

According to a news release from Mount Prospect police, officers were contacted about 7:25 p.m. with claims the man had barricaded himself in the residence in the 1100 block of Meadow Lane and threatened to harm himself with a firearm.

The man has not been identified by police because charges have not been filed.

Family members in the home at the time escaped without injury before officers arrived on the scene.

Police established a perimeter around the house and activated the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System to assist. NIPAS negotiators spoke with the man, and the standoff ended safely at 2:15 a.m.

No one was injured, police said.
