Suspect in McHenry Co. 'thrill killing' in court
A former Woodstock man is back in McHenry County to face charges stemming from the brutal slaying of a homeless man that authorities have characterized as a thrill killing.
Kyle W. Morgan, 25, was in court Monday for a bond hearing. He will be arraigned in front of McHenry County Judge Joseph Condon on Friday.
Authorities say in January 2009, Morgan beat and stabbed 28-year-old Robin A. Burton to death at Morgan's Woodstock apartment. Investigators also found evidence that Burton's body was mutilated.
Morgan fled McHenry County after the killing, authorities say, ending up in Nashville, where he was captured after trying to elude police, striking two pedestrians and a building during a car chase.
In January, Morgan pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the police pursuit and was sentenced to five years in prison. His extradition to Illinois to face murder charges was held up while he faced disciplinary issues in a Tennessee jail, McHenry County prosecutors said.
