Haiti benefit Thursday at Prospect

A Haiti benefit concert Thursday night at Roosevelt University in Chicago was organized by 1977 Prospect High School graduate Tom Clowes, whose parents still live in Mount Prospect.

The free concert of Haitian classical and folk music will be at 7:30 p.m. May 27 in Ganz Hall, 430 S. Michigan Ave., floor 7.

Donations of instruments, music supplies and money for the Haiti Music School Rebuilding Fund will be accepted. Musicians in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and cellist Wendy Warner will perform classical, folk, and vodou-inspired music from Haiti, France and West Africa.

Donations will be used to rebuild the Holy Trinity Music School of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the home of Haiti's de facto national orchestra, which was destroyed in the earthquake.

Clowes has been teaching at Holy Trinity Music School's summer music camp since 2000. Clowes is a Roosevelt University student and former Tucson Symphony Orchestra musician. For information, (520) 331-8270 or tclowes@gmail.com.
