Smashed car-window spree leads to arrests for four Schaumburg teens

Police arrested four Schaumburg teenagers Wednesday after a two-day vandalism spree in Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates left at least 18 vehicle windows smashed.

Joseph Dorczuk, 18, of the 1200 block of Weathersfield Way, Danielle A. Kappel, 18, of the 100 block of Idlestone Lane, and a 17-year-old male were arrested together Wednesday night, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said. Charles J. Poncin, 18, of the 600 block of Dartmouth Lane, was arrested later that night, Nebl added.

Dorczuk is charged with criminal damage to property, Kappel with possession of cannabis and the 17-year-old faces seven counts of criminal damage to property, authorities said. Poncin was charged with two counts of criminal damage to property. All the charges are misdemeanors.

The damaged vehicles were parked on Tuesday and Wednesday in the area of Walnut Lane to Cedarcrest Drive, near Wise and Bode roads, Nebl said.

Police arrested the first three suspects about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday after a witness description of Dorczuk, Kappel and their car led to a traffic stop near Schaumburg Road and Salem Drive.

The teens will next appear in court on June 8, Nebl added.

Rich Swets, whose 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was one of the vehicles damaged Tuesday night, said the teens used sling shots to shatter his SUV's rear window. It took him two hours to clean up the broken glass and $2,200 to replace the window.

"Where are the parents?" he asked.
