Hanover Township seeks support our troops entries

Hanover Township is seeking entries in the car show and barbecue challenge of its 6th annual Operation Support Our Troops Freedom Bash, which will be 5-10 p.m. Friday, June 11, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 12, on the campus grounds of the township building, 250 S. Rte. 59, Bartlett.

The goal is to gather items for servicemen and women that remind them of the comforts of home, while celebrating the freedoms that they work so hard to maintain.

"Six years ago when we began collecting for the troops, the war was on peoples' minds. Now the attention is not as focused; supporting our soldiers is more important than ever before," said Township Supervisor Brian McGuire.

Activities include rides for kids, bingo, baggo and a beer garden with live local entertainment.

Friday night's car show will likely have more than 80 entries with three cars and one motorcycle getting a trophy. The entry fee is $12.

Saturday's main event is the Hanover Hogs-N-Hens Backyard BBQ Cook Off. With the $75 entry fee, teams will receive their meat to prepare for the judges, a 25 x 25 foot space and a chance at a trophy.

To enter, contact Township Senior Services, (630) 483-5600, or go to hanover-township.org or Facebook.
