Aurora man's health improving after attack with brick

Police say an Aurora man's health was slightly improved Thursday as he recovers after being hit over the head with a brick during a fight Sunday morning in Roselle.

The 27-year-old victim, who police will not name, remains in serious condition at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. But Roselle Sgt. John Lawson said the man's injuries are no longer life-threatening.

Christopher L. Bussey, 25, of the 6900 block of Longmeadow in Hanover Park, was charged Monday with aggravated battery in the attack.

Lawson said Bussey and the victim, who knew each other, both attended a party Saturday night into early Sunday morning at a bar on the 300 block of North Roselle Road. The party was to celebrate the 25th birthday of a person who lives on the 500 block of North May Street in Roselle.

The men left together in a cab and began fighting, Lawson said, then exited the cab at an unknown location. After being interviewed by Roselle detectives, Bussey admitted to following the victim to the 500 block of North May Street - near the home of the birthday party celebrant - and striking him with a broken landscape brick.

Roselle police and paramedics responded just after 4:20 a.m. Sunday to reports of an unconscious man bleeding from his head. The victim was taken to Alexian Brothers and later was diagnosed with a skull fracture at the hospital, police said. He was conscious after the attack, however, and able to participate in police interviews, officials said.

Bussey appeared in court on Tuesday. He is being held on a $25,000 bond in Cook County jail. Bussey's next court date is set for 9 a.m. June 9 at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
