Arlington 500 draws more than 750 riders
The Arlington 500 Bicycle Ride last Sunday drew more than 750 riders to lightly traveled roads in Lake County. It was the 31st year for this ride, designed for the recreational bicyclist. It is sponsored by the Arlington Heights Bicycle Club and draws riders cyclists from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
The ride features four routes with distances of 30, 44, 54, or 68 miles, which is a bit more than 500 furlongs.
The ride began and ended at Barrington High School.
The Arlington Heights Bicycle Club is a recreational group affiliated with the Arlington Heights Park District. It provides weekly rides for the beginning, intermediate, and advanced cyclist. More information is at cyclearlington.com.
Riders in the Arlington 500 take a rest break in the Lakewood Forest Preserve on Fairfield Road just south of Route 176 in Lake County.
