Schaumburg strip mall to be demolished

The small strip mall at the northwest corner of Schaumburg and Roselle roads in Schaumburg will be demolished Thursday to make way for a 14,000-square-foot commercial building with two upper floors of 12 apartments each.

The site was bought by the village for $2 million after condemnation proceedings and then sold to United Land Development. It is the one commercial aspect of the developers' recently reapproved Pleasant Square residential development that will now include 11.7 acres.

Most of the strip mall's former tenants, including Sara Lee, took advantage of a federal tenant relocation program to pay their moving costs.
