Wasn't defending indefensible acts
In response to Kate Bochte's letter to the Fence Post Tuesday, April 20, Bochte seems to have a real ax to grind.
I ask you, where in my Fence Post letter of April 15 did I defend the indefensible acts of priests or the bishops who neglected their duties concerning child molestation? I said "I am Catholic and I'll defend my 'faith,'" not the abuse of children. This indefensible act is happening every day in every segment of society. I personally know this because I have also experienced the emotional trauma of molestation.
Understandingly, we all expect better from the Catholic Church. We sometimes forget that it is a community of human beings, capable of wrongdoing. Of course, that is no excuse, but it is a fact.
I prayerfully hope Pope Benedict is doing everything humanly possible to rectify and prosecute the priests who abused these children and the bishops who neglected their duties.
In regard to the good and wonderful priests who pastor to their flocks and give their lives to the service of God and humanity, I say thank you. I'm positive they way outnumber the bad.
Suffice it to say, we are all sinners and we must do our best to be upright in all our deeds. To reject my prayers is your choice, but it won't stop me from doing so, as we are all in dire need of God's help.
