ComEd worker briefly trapped

A ComEd employee was trapped in the bucket of a service truck after the vehicle got stuck in a marshy area and began to lean, causing it to get tangled in communication cables, West Chicago fire officials said.

West Chicago firefighters responded to North Avenue east of Route 59 just before noon Tuesday to find the vehicle stuck in the mud and an employee, who was strapped into the bucket of the vehicle, trapped about 60 feet off the ground, officials said. ComEd workers tied the vehicle to another with a tow strap in an attempt to stabilize it until firefighters arrived, officials said. Firefighters set up a 100-foot aerial ladder truck on North Avenue, reached out to the bucket and assisted the employee onto the ladder truck and down to the ground.

Three lanes of North Avenue were closed for three hours while ComEd disentangled the vehicle and a tow company worked to remove it from the mud, officials said.
