Canucks likely will have to go without Salo in Game 6

It's unlikely the Canucks will have defenseman Sami Salo in the lineup Tuesday night for Game 6 after he took a deflected Duncan Keith slap shot in the groin Sunday.

The Vancouver Province reported Monday that Salo did not suffer a ruptured testicle.

Salo is a key shot blocker and penalty-killer for the Canucks, who now must depend heavily on defensemen Alex Edler, Christian Ehrhoff, Kevin Bieksa, Shane O'Brien and Andrew Alberts.

"It doesn't change anything at all for us," Blackhawks winger Andrew Ladd said. "We just have to get back to simplifying and thinking less is more sometimes and not try to make the pretty play."

Kris Versteeg agreed with his teammate.

"I think they have guys who can step in the lineup and play big roles for them," Versteeg said. "We just have to go in with the same mind-set and really get pucks in good areas, play our game and play the way we know we can."

Wait and see: Hawks coach Joel Quenneville doesn't hesitate to make lineup changes after a loss, but he wasn't tipping his hand Monday.

"We'll see," Quenneville said. "I know that's something we'll be visiting with and I'm sure I'll be answering that same question (Tuesday)."

Getting Troy Brouwer back in the lineup is a strong possibility. Brouwer has sat out the last three games as a healthy scratch.

Frequent fliers: The last thing the Hawks wanted to do was get back on a plane Monday for the more than four-hour ride back to Vancouver.

"Both teams are doing it," Andrew Ladd said. "Both teams are making the flights. It's just all part of playoff hockey."

Tip-ins: The Hawks haven't played a seventh game since the 1995 conference quarterfinals, when they beat Toronto 5-2. - Canucks winger Daniel Sedin needed some treatment on his ankle Monday from a Dave Bolland slash in Game 5, but he will play Tuesday night. - The Canucks tried to change their luck by taking the warmup Sunday without their helmets and plan to do it again before Game 6.
